 Archaeological Excavation

Archaeological excavation by ACS Ltd at Cooksland 3 commenced in June 2006 which is now complete. Post excavation is also complete.

Progress Update

Ditches and field drains were identified, tested and recorded. The principal cluster of features identified in testing, an ephemeral curvilinear feature, four pits and five possible post-holes were not located despite extensive clean back, although a drain which bisected the features was located.

All of the features exposed during testing were less than 0.20m in depth and it would seem that deeper ploughing carried out since the testing phase has resulted in their total removal. Topsoil cover is now at 0.40m as opposed to 0.20m during the testing phase. Two other pit type features not located during testing have been identified. Both contaiedn cremated bone in their fill. .
