Archaeological excavation was undertaken at Dunboyne 4 by ACS Ltd in March 2006 and is now complete. Post-excavation analysis is complete.
The remains of a rectangular post-built house, 4m in width and over 12m long, was uncovered within Cutting 1 and ran beneath the northern limit of excavation. Two sherds of prehistoric (possibly Neolithic) pottery were retrieved from the post-pipe of the gable support. There was evidence of repair and extensive rebuilding of the house. There were a number of related archaeological features and structures in the immediate environs. A possible keyhole kiln and related features were uncovered at the southwest extent of Cutting 1. Cutting 3 contained a post-medieval drainage system. There were no archaeological features within Cuttings 2, 4 or 5.
