Preliminary Results of Excavation

Archaeological excavation at Piercetown 1 was undertaken by ACS Ltd in March 2006. Post-excavation analysis is ongoing.

One archaeological feature, a pit, was fully excavated and recorded during testing in 2004. A 40m x 40m area surrounding the location of the pit was stripped of soil and fully investigated. A herringbone pattern of drains and ditches was revealed on the site and probably dated to the mid-19th century. No archaeological finds or features were uncovered.
