The archaeological site at Garretstown 1 is indicated by the small blue circle, located in Garretstown townland. The Dunshaughlin to Navan Road (coming from Dublin) runs south-east / north-west along the left-hand side of the map. The archaeological site at Garretstown 2 is marked by a larger blue circle to the south of Garretstown 1. (Map reproduced by courtesy of the Board of Trinity College Dublin) |
Archaeological testing along the centreline of the proposed M3 route, to the north of the probable medieval moated site at Garretstown 2, identified possible burial and settlement evidence.
A pit and possible hearth of unknown date were indentified along with two modern ditches. Post excavation is now complete.
